About Dan Durall

Dan is an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Biology. He has been conducting research in the area of mycology for over 30 years. For the past 10 years, he has been particularly interested in yeast population and community dynamics during wine fermentations and how different yeasts can affect the chemical and sensory profiles of a wine. He supervises graduate students, undergraduate honours students, and undergraduate research assistants, and is funded by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the BC Wine and Grape Council, BC Investment Agriculture, and Mission Hill Family Estate Winery. The courses he teaches include Enology, Food and Industrial Microbiology, and Mycology.
